The 2nd International Sustainable Transport Summit MOBILIZE in Santiago (Chile), will be held on June 28-30th 2017.
MOBILIZE is the annual sustainable transport summit of the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP), which brings together urban transport and development practitioners alongside world-class researchers to celebrate best practices and accelerate implementation of sustainable transport projects. Using research to fill knowledge gaps, activities around MOBILIZE leverage the availability of international solutions and draw on the lessons of a local case city used as a learning laboratory. Interaction between researchers and practitioners foster greater global resource allocation toward the goals of making streets, transport systems, and cities the best possible places for people.
Each year, ITDP and the Sustainable Transport Award Committee select a city that has implemented innovative sustainable transportation projects in the preceding year. Prof. Juan Carlos Muñoz, Director of the Bus Rapid Transit Centre of Excellence and Director of the Multi-disciplinary Centre of Sustainable Urban Development, is the President of this Committee.
Santiago, host of the second annual Mobilize summit, has shown that prioritizing walking and access to public transit through superior pedestrian infrastructure can inspire other cities. Inequality in Latin American cities is high and nearly 100 million new inhabitants are expected in cities in the region over the next 15 years. The challenge of population growth offers an opportunity to plan and provide guidance to cities. Participants to this invitation-only summit have a unique opportunity to experience Santiago, a trailblazer in the Latin American region.
During the three-day event, participants, including local authorities from government agencies and the academy, will share ideas and best practices in sustainable transport, development and urban planning in various workshops. Furthermore, on-site visits will be conducted to the public bike system, the bikeway network, bus corridors, as well as a tour of the renovated streets designs in the downtown area.
We hope you are interested and participate in this event organized by the Centre of Excellence in BRT.
